The Shell for Your CMS
The Content Management System to be developed is intended to be a resource discussing the use of Educational Technology in a school setting. The purpose is to help other teachers understand how technology can positively impact student learning outcomes (SLOs) when used properly. There should be at least 5 pages, as follows:
1. What is "student-centered learning" (as defined by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching as per their handbook for evaluating teachers) and how does it flow from modern learning theories of Cognitivism and Constructivism in particular? Feel free to tap illustrative material from Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy, Learning Styles (Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic), and Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences ( visual, verbal, logical, bodily, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal).
2. What is the correct relationship between teachers and technology?
3. What are the proper ways to apply technology?
4. What is the best way to understand technology in a testing driven school paradigm?
5. How should schools approach digital competence for students and better bridge the disconnect between what happens in school with technology and the ways technology is used in the larger society.
One should observe that:
The first page noted above relates the the material from the first 2 class sessions.
The second page reflects the concepts in the first chapter of the Zhao text.
The third page covers the ideas in Zhao's second chapter.
The fourth page should spring from the thoughts expressed in the text's discussion found in the third chapter.
The fifth page should be developed using the perspectives of the fourth and fifth chapters of the text.

- These pages should be made up of many small items that have an illustration, link, and not more than about 250 words as an absolute maximum. However, each item should have a title and a clear point expressed completely, though briefly. One is likely to need to do some web searching to find appropriate illustrations and links. Illustrations could be slide shows, audio, or short video , as well as images and diagrams/charts. (Illustration is a broader term than image or graphics.)
- The text boxes, illustrations, links, etc., should be arranged in at least 3 varied columns (as one might see in a newspaper) to provide interest to the page. Do not simply have a sequence of single column articles
- Because this is a shell to be created at this point, the shell indicates it is both a planning document and a dynamic document. As a planning document, some of the pages are not expected to have any more than the title on them. (By the way, the statements above are not titles. You are expected to be creative in making nice, short titles for each page that speaks to the content of that page in an enticing way.)
- As a dynamic document, these pages are expected to continue to develop - even after the initial push on development for the page is completed. Some of the pages may be cross linked. For example, the first page should speak of constructivism as will the third page (since constructivism is addressed in the Zhao text, Chapter 2.) There are likely to be other points of cross linking, as well.
- Also part of being a shell is providing at least page one that is more fully completed. This shell should have page one fairly well laid out as an example of the style and form the other pages will take.
- Some work should be done on page two, since the first Chapter reading should be complete, by this time. However, do not work too far ahead, as you may want to include ideas from what your professor says about your blog posts on these chapters from your readings before completely developing the page inspired by that reading. In that sense, these pages represent something of an outcome from our discussion of your developing ideas.
